Dock Hanks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Corsicana on Jun. 26, 2024.

Dock Clark Hanks passed away at approximately 8:45am on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home in Powell, Texas. Dock was born in the same house on July 25, 1944, the son of Hamp and Aliene Hanks. Dock’s family lived in the Navarro, Henderson, and Denton County, Texas. Dock graduated high school valedictorian from Kerens High School. He then attended Navarro Junior College and graduated with a BBA from Texas Tech University in 1967.

After college Dock moved back to Corsicana and opened an independent insurance agency, eventually merging with his parent’s agency, H.H. Hanks Insurance. Hanks Insurance Inc. has successfully served its customers throughout Navarro County and the surrounding states for the last 101 years.

Dock joined the Texas Jaycees in 1970, where he became a nationally active member in the service organization. Through the Jaycees, Dock made life-long friends that became his second family. This tightknit group vacationed, played golf and late-night card games, spent holidays together, and enjoyed watching each other’s children grow.

After his years in the Jaycees, Dock continued to serve his community. In 1992, he was the Texas state Democratic delegate to the US presidential campaign. Four years later, he was the county chair for the Democratic party for Bill Clinton. Through his hard work, he received a formal invitation to the presidential inauguration where he proudly represented the Texas Democratic party.

After years of serving his community, Dock wanted to prioritize time with his family. Together they enjoyed an abundance of travel and made lasting memories. He is survived by his wife Debbie, his daughters Mandi, Kelli, sons Kevin, Kasey and Keith, and grandchildren Lacey, Dixie, Mason, Miyah, Kaleb, Kezli, Katelyn, Kylie, Nathan, Henry, and Ainsley. “Big Daddy’s” intelligence, zest for life, and booming laugh will be sorely missed.
